Before Anesthesia
Home Instructions Before Oral Surgery
As part of our patient-centric services, we provide you with detailed instructions to follow before your oral surgery with anesthesia. We will also discuss important points during your consultation, and we include reminders here for easy reference.
How to Prepare for a Procedure with Anesthesia
Please follow these instructions to prepare for oral surgery with IV Sedation and contact us with any questions you have.
- Do not consume anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight hours leading up to your appointment.
- If you are a smoker, do not smoke for at least 12 hours prior to your appointment. It is best to cut down or quit smoking altogether the day before the surgery if possible.
- A responsible adult or guardian should accompany you to the office, wait in our office while the surgery is performed, and take you home afterward.
- Patients undergoing anesthesia should not operate a vehicle within 24 hours after receiving anesthesia.
- We request you wear loose-fitting clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up past the elbow as well as low-heeled shoes.
- Remove all contact lenses, dentures, and jewelry during surgery.
- Please do not wear lipstick, excessive make-up, or nail polish on the day of your oral surgery.
- Please notify our office if you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, upset stomach, or bowels.
- If you have routine oral medications, please check with us before your surgery date for instructions on taking them leading up to and the day of your surgery.
